Background
Hierrnaus is the third planet in the Ornaus System. The planet has two moons, Orcus and Nargal. The red planet’s largest settlement is the seaside city of Smith’s Pointe. It’s intricate network of docks and winding streets serve as the capital of the planet Hierrnaus and of the Free Worlds of the Outer Rim. It also happens to be the region’s epicenter for pirate activity. Despite a network of political figures, the governance of Hierrnaus is heavily influenced by the interests of the current Pirate Lord, appointed democratically by the clans of cutthroats operating out of this seaside city.
Fort Dakota
Completed in 2195, the mobilization of ISF forces at Fort Dakota is cited by most historians as the greatest military mistake the ISF has ever made. Between 2195 and 2238, Fort Dakota was lost to aggravated pirates 52 times in 43 years. In 2238, the ISF forces at Fort Dakota (all local Hierrnaus settlers) mutinied, siding with Nogylop and his pirates. The ISF declared war on “any Outer Rim citizen who takes up arms against their native government.”
Raffe
These quadrupeds have been dubbed the miracle beast by Outer Rim denizens. Often compared to ornithischian dinosaurs, the Raffe of Hierrnaus are kept as livestock, much like cattle on Earth. Unlike cattle, their rapidly decaying waste and modest dietary needs make these creatures far less taxing on the ecosystem. If you can forgive the smell.
The Free Worlds of the Outer Rim
Causes
After the War of Unification, the ISF reclaimed the Outer Rim worlds in 2183. The territories were rich in natural resources and regarded as rough, working class destinations for farming and industry. Maintaining a military presence proved difficult and the Outer Rim developed a dangerous culture governed by martial law. For a half century, the ISF struggled to hold the capital, New Cortallek.
The Outer Rim Rebellion
In 2238, the ISF declared war on the rebels at New Cortallek. The people of Hierrnaus rallied around their elected commander, Nogylop Smith, establishing the Free Worlds of the Outer Rim and renaming the capital city ‘Smith’s Pointe.’ By 2245, the ISF agreed to terms of surrender.
